Arabic Teaching & Studying
Arabic Language Resources by Dialect ~ مصادر بالعربي
I. Egyptian ~ مصري
I’m loving Netflix’s series, “Secret of the Nile” (the Egyptian adaptation of Spanish “Grand Hotel,” from Ramadan 2016)
Egyptian units by William Fawzy – and “talk show archives“
2020 addition: a new blog & podcast called Bilmasri
II. North African ~ دارجة
III. Levantine ~ شامي
One of my favorite ways to practice this dialect is مسلسل سنوات الضياع. And when you finish that and need something else, there’s مسلسل العشق الأسود (both dubbed from Turkish)
IV. Gulf ~ خليجي
Videos & Music
Check out Playaling for tons of videos in various dialects/language varieties, with downloadable. You can search by language level, activate captions, and adjust other settings.
The YouTube channel MohCoolMan offers a wide range of songs (from Disney songs, to pop, to classics), with lyrics added in Arabic and in English translation. It’s not perfect, but it’s amazing as a free resource.
